Week 1 – Wompatuck Training Series Recap

Week 1 of the Wompatuck Training Series kicked off yesterday, 4/22, with a fast competitive ride enjoyed by a quality field of participants. Nearly from the word go, riders tested their winter training with a fast opening 30 minutes at speeds near 26 mph. A sharing of strong pulls on the front and occasional attacks ensured there was little respite for those hanging on. As the ride progressed towards its second half, the group periodically shrank then swelled as riders dropped then rejoined the group after catching their breath and recharging their legs. A group of 5 was still on the lead lap with 20 minutes to go when a promising attack was ended abruptly by an untimely derailleur fail. A tenuous truce thereafter prevailed until the final. The last laps were punctuated by a series of attacks; none of which quite fully succeeded, and a small group contested a sprint to the line. Thomas Francisco proved to be the strongest and crossed the finish line first.
